As a new leader I had to deal with many new situations. Old ways of being increasingly became ineffective. I tried learning from those around me, who were in a similar situation or had walked the path before, but the exposure was limited. Given my circumstances, I had to learn on the go. Therefore, there is a deep-rooted curiosity within me to find out how others responded to the problems I faced as a burgeoning leader. And to quench it, I seek the perspective of my peers, coaches and C suite executives.
As I explore best practices of developing leaders and helping them transition, I see so many possibilities. Unfortunately, not everyone is tapping into them for various reasons. May be the organisations they work for don’t have structured programs to help professionals transition into leadership roles, or they are not part of the cohort that their company sponsors for leadership programs or may be everyday pressures of work don’t allow them to step back and take a long-term view.
I immensely relate to these professionals who have ambition as well as will to make the effort needed to break out of their orbit and yet the right guidance has eluded them. Hence, I decided to publish my conversations with leaders who planned for success and achieved it, coaches who empowered many leaders to make a real impact and to my peers who are currently charting the leadership terrain at various levels, in the form of a podcast called “Bridge to Leadership.”
In the conversations that are released initially, the listeners can tune into:
- leadership lessons a C level executive learnt by being an Ice Hockey coach
- how a black woman who was told that the best she can do is be a secretary broke the mould and became Chief Information Officer of fortune 500 companies like Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and GE
- and finally learn from someone like one of us, who shares how she learnt to lead large teams
As I continue to share my conversations with smart, ambitious professionals who are doing everything in their power to reach their zenith, however, they define it, it is my earnest wish that I create a bridge that connects their efforts to their aspirations.
Wishing all you heroes wisdom, courage and compassion to break out of your orbit.
